Grandfather // Free verse

Grandfather stands there

The thought of Nancy

Makes him cry

I remember the day he died

Can’t develop the past

Father shaking in the

Window sill

Never get to see him

8mm negatives

Left out to dry

High overhead – the Maryland

Ivy higher than knees

In the backyard

He always taught

Us to work hard

Wish I could speak

To him now

Grandfather can’t

See me drown
